Occasionally, we’re presented with a new auger production challenge. This would be anything auger-based that is not particularly related to traditional solids handling.
Augers come in many different shapes, sizes, and types, and are available in a multitude of incarnations.Whether it be for powder handling/dosing, agriculture, water irrigation, injection moulding, or to remove leftover materials from your pellet stove, augers are widely used for a robust transportation method.
A pellet stove will typically consist of the following components:
- The hopper.
- Auger mechanism.
- Blower fans: both combustion and convection.
- Firebox and ash collection unit.
- Safety options.
- The controller.
The auger mechanism, which we manufacture the auger screws for, will consist of an auger enclosed in a tube. The auger is employed to evenly distribute pellet fuel from the material hopper to the combustion chamber.

We manufactured our client’s auger using EN24T (also known as 817M40T) mild steel, a popular through-hardening alloy steel. It was selected due to its easy machinability, high strength, wear resistance, and shock resistance. EM24T is often used for the manufacturing of components that are subject to high levels of stress due to its properties. Common components include gears, shafts, studs, axles, machine parts, and bolts.
The alloy consists of Nickel, Chromium, and Molybdenum, and possess poor weldability. Trantec can provide traceability on all metals and plastics used for the construction of your application.
